Snowman Song

This is a cute song that students won't mind learning to read.  You can use this video to help teach them the words!

They can use these writing papers to write about where they think the Snowman went!

Here are a few of my favorite books about Snowmen!

Pastries for Parents Brownie Recipe

We just had Pastries for Parents this morning at my school!  Parents enjoyed breakfast and a wonderful presentation on preventing bullying.  Getting this ready is part of my job!

I had requests for my brownie recipe and thought I would share it here on my blog!

Peanut Butter Cup Crunch Brownies

Bake one box of (Ghirardelli) brownie mix in a 9x13 baking dish for 20-25 minutes.

Remove from oven and top with :
1 to 1 1/2 cups chopped Reese Cups (scatter over the top surface of brownies)
1/2 cup salted peanuts
Place in oven for 4-6 more minutes.  Remove from oven.

Combine in microwave safe bowl:
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1/2 tablespoon butter

Melt in microwave.  It takes just a few seconds to melt!  Be careful not to burn.
When melted, add 1 1/2 cups Rice Krispies.  Stir and pour chocolate mixture on top.

Refrigerate for 2 hours before serving!

My family loves to take these to work over the holidays to share with others!  They cut beautifully and you never have any left!

Merry Christmas!

Turkey Poems for Thanksgiving

I really like poetry for developing fluency in a fun way!  Kids just love talking about turkeys at Thanksgiving.

I am very thankful for my family and friends this year!  Also, for having a job that impacts the lives of children in a positive way.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
-Melody Beattie

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with love and laughter!

Heroes: Ideas and Freebies

Who are heroes?  Our students may think that Superman or Spiderman is a true hero.  I think that Morgan Kelly is an expert on the subject!  Be sure to use her video during your lesson on Heroes!

Here are a few more items to help you plan!

There are 2 posters.  One for older students and one for younger students.
Students can use Word Clouds for Kids and make their own!

Create a concept map for the characteristics of a hero.

You could also do a KWL Chart!

Let's write about how we can be a hero!

The Thankful Tree

I just love Little Page Turners adaptation of the wedding keepsake tree found on Style Unveiled!  She added the word "thankful" to the top of the page and created a wonderful keepsake for children and parents!  Their little fingerprints will be treasured for years to come.  Children should sign and date their creations!  As a mom, I can tell you that this would be hanging on the wall somewhere in my house if my children had done this in elementary school!

A few of my favorite fall books that would go well with this activity:

by Cynthia Rylant

Children just love Lois Ehlert's books!

Use these nifty pigment pads for fingerprints!
Or, make your own pads with paint and sponge pieces.

I Want My Hat Back

I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen is a wonderful addition to your library!  I read this book to a class this past week and they were a sight to behold!  When they figured out what was going on, their reaction was priceless!

Common Core Connection:
